Lady Muleriders calm storm in sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. – Junior outside hitter Serena LeDuff led all players with 21 kills, senior Shelby Lauterbach added ten more at an efficient clip of .412, and Southern Arkansas as a team attacked at a clip of .274 as they defeated Southeastern Oklahoma in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) on Friday evening inside Bloomer Sullivan Gym and in the process picked up their fourth Great American Conference win of the season.

With the first set tied at 16, the Lady Muleriders closed the opening frame on a 9-4 run highlighted by a pair of kills from junior Kaitlyn Reiner; who paced an SAU defensive front with 4 total blocks.

The Lady Muleriders (12-12, 4-6 GAC) controlled the second set from the start pushing their lead to as much as nine, while holding the Savage Storm to a swing average of .125.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Savage Storm opened up the third frame by jumping out to an 11-5 lead. An ensuing 6-0 Lady Mulerider run was highlighted by three consecutive kills from Lauterbach as SAU tied the set at 11. Tied at 16, a kill from LeDuff coupled with a pair of SOSU attack errors gave SAU a 19-16 advantage.

While 44 assists of Southern Arkansas' 50 kills came courtesy of senior setter Taylor Reaume, no assist was more important than her final one of the evening that saw LeDuff break a 23-23 tie, before the former teamed up with Reiner to finish the third set and take the GAC sweep via block assists.

Defensively, junior libero Hannah Rice collected 21 digs, while classmate Paige Mays and sophomore Savannah Pillow each added 11 to pace a back row that out dug Southeastern Oklahoma by 12.

The Lady Muleriders will compete in Oklahoma for the final time in 2015 as they matchup with East Central tomorrow afternoon in Ada, Oklahoma, with a first-serve time set for 2 p.m.
