Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – A two-run bottom of the ninth inning by Arkansas Tech ended what was a great mid-week pitcher's duel as ATU picked up a 2-1 win over Southern Arkansas in a non-conference game that featured a pair of top-10 teams in NCAA Division II.
Prior to that two-run ninth inning, the No. 9-ranked Wonder Boys (29-8) were being held scoreless by the No. 5-ranked Muleriders' (29-11) starter
Yumezo Densaki. Through his first eight innings of work, Densaki had walked none and allowed just six hits while striking out seven batters.
While Densaki was keeping the Wonder Boys out of the run column, the Muleriders found themselves also being denied any runs as the Tech starter Trent Armstrong carried a five-hit shutout through the first five innings.
In the top of the sixth, the Muleriders would notch the game's first tally as
Carver Rademacher blasted his sixth homerun of the season.
That 1-0 score in favor of the Muleriders would remain until the bottom of the ninth when the Wonder Boys rallied for a pair of runs off of Densaki to win the game in their final at-bat.
Despite the low run total, the Muleriders did have 10 hits in the game.
Josh Rodriguez would account for nearly half of those as he went 4-for-4.
The Muleriders will now prepare for another top-10 nationally-ranked matchup over the weekend as they play host to No. 6 Delta State in a three-game series starting on Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m. at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.
That Saturday will also serve as Military Appreciation Day at the ballpark. Pre-game ceremonies, which include Presentation of the Colors by members of the Arkansas Army National Guard, the signing of the "National Anthem" by Chandler Walley, and the throwing out of the first-pitch by former Mulerider All-America baseball player John Long, will begin at 2:50 p.m.
