Farfan goes 4-for-5 in SAU’s 9-4 win over Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Box Score

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Audrey Farfan went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and one RBI on Wednesday afternoon as she helped pace a Southern Arkansas offense that banged out 12 hits en route to a 9-4 win over Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Joining Farfan with a multi-hit game were Maddie Dow, Sarah Higginbotham, and Courtney Hudgins as all three had two hits.

Dow's first hit of the game came in the top of the first and gave the Lady Muleriders (29-22) an early 2-0 lead as she crushed a two-run bomb, her 17th homerun of the season. Two innings later, the Lady Muleriders would extend their lead to 6-0 as they scored four runs in the third. In that inning, Farfan and Higginbotham would pick up RBI singles while Darian Harris drove in a run on a groundout. Leigha Doyle scored the final run that inning on a wild pitch.

An inning later, Higginbotham picked up her second RBI as she singled home Farfan. That RBI knock by Higginbotham gave SAU a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of that inning, the Golden Lions (7-31) would pick up their first run of the game to make it a 7-1 game. Two innings later, the Golden Lions would make it a three-run game as they scored three runs to make it a 7-4 game in favor of SAU.

In the top of the seventh, the Lady Muleriders would once again distance themselves as they scored a pair of runs to bring the game to its eventual final of 9-4. Shelby Miller was responsible for both of those runs in the seventh as she singled to left field, scoring Chelsea Ivy and Harris.

Miller, the Lady Muleriders starting pitcher in the game, would get the win to move her record to 12-12 on the year. In the start on Wednesday, Miller would allow no runs on just one hit over four innings. She would also strike out six.

The Lady Muleriders will now prepare for their final games of the regular season as they are set to host Southwestern Oklahoma in a four-game series starting on Friday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
