Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. – After a strong comeback effort fell short in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader, the Southern Arkansas softball team would out-score Southern Nazarene 6-0 over the final three innings of the nightcap as they came-from-behind to pick up a 7-3 win and earn a split in the conference twin-bill.
In the opener, the Lady Muleriders (26-22, 20-14 GAC) and the Crimson Storm (19-28, 12-20 GAC) would play a scoreless pitcher's duel over the first three innings with just one hit combined over that time.
In the bottom of the fourth, however, the Crimson Storm would break the scoreless tie and take a 2-0 lead as Saydi Dowd hit a two-run single down the right field line. An inning later, the Crimson Storm doubled their score and lead on a two-run homerun by Megan Blevins.
That 4-0 score would hold until the top of the seventh when the Lady Muleriders would get a clutch three-run homerun by
Maddie Dow with two outs in the frame to pull to within a run, 4-3. Unfortunately, the Crimson Storm starter Kayla Wyatt would need to throw just one more pitch in the game as she got a flyout to end the game.
In the nightcap, the Crimson Storm took an early 1-0 lead as they got a solo homerun from Whitney Linder in the bottom of the second. In the next half inning, Dow would knot the game at one-all as she picked up her fourth RBI of the day on a single to left field, scoring
Courtney Hudgins.
The Crimson Storm, on the strength of a RBI double by Lindy Fluman and a RBI single by Kyndall Freer, answered back and took a two-run lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the third.
In the top of the fifth, the Lady Muleriders would take advantage of a pair of walks and a pair of errors as they struck for four runs in the inning without the benefit of a hit to take a 5-3 lead. An inning later,
Sarah Higginbotham gave the Lady Muleriders two more runs of insurance as she doubled home
Shelby Miller and Dow.
The 7-3 score would become the eventual final as Miller, who came on in relief in the fourth inning, allowed just one hit over the final two innings to secure the win for the Lady Muleriders.
Games three and four of this four-game series will be played on Saturday as part of a doubleheader starting at Noon.
