Lady Muleriders drop twin-bill at Arkansas Tech

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas softball team suffered a pair of losses on Friday afternoon as Arkansas Tech defended their home field with an 11-4 win in the opener and a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

In the opening game, the Golden Suns (13-13, 5-9 GAC) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and then ripped the game open with eight runs in the third. In that eight-run third inning, the Golden Suns benefitted greatly from a pair of SAU errors as only one of those runs would be earned.

The Lady Muleriders (15-16, 10-8 GAC) would show some resolve in the next half inning as they scored three runs to make it a 10-3 game. All three of SAU's runs that inning would be unearned as the Golden Suns committed a pair of errors with two outs. Two of the three runs for the Lady Muleriders that inning came in on a single to left field off the bat of Ashley Quintana.

A single run in the top of the sixth by the Lady Muleriders made it a 10-4 game, but the Golden Suns matched that run in the bottom of the frame, bringing the game to its eventual final of 11-4.

In the nightcap, offense was hard to come by for either team as the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Golden Suns scored a pair of runs on three hits. That inning would prove to be Miller's undoing as she had limited the Golden Suns to just three hits prior to.

Now trailing 2-0, the Lady Muleriders were looking to put together a rally in their final at-bats, but the Golden Suns' starter Sydnee Clark did away with any comeback attempts as she pitched a perfect top of the seventh to close out the complete-game shutout.

For the Lady Muleriders, their potentially potent offense was kept in check as they were limited to just eight hits combined across the doubleheader. Miller, who had four of those hits, was the lone Lady Mulerider to record multiple hits on Friday.

Looking to beat any rain chances on Saturday, the final two games of the series are now scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
