Leading Off
Off to a 6-1 start over the first two weeks of the season, the Southern Arkansas baseball team has vaulted as high as No.4 in the D2baseball.com poll. The Muleriders also moved up significantly in the College Baseball Lineup poll as they went from preseason No.26 to No.11 in the latest CBL poll.
A main reason for the large jumps in the polls, depsite their record, was the fact that the Muleriders swept previously ranked No.4 Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road last weekend. In that sweep, the Muleriders picked up an 8-4 win in 10 innings in the opener and then shut out the Javelinas, 3-0, in the nightcap. In the series finale, the Muleriders jumped out to a 7-0 lead through seven
and half innings before settling for a 7-3 win for the sweep.
Two of the key players in that series were the Buchanan twins, Justin and Timothy. Justin would go 6-for-11 with a double and five RBIs. Timothy would work seven shutout innings and strike out a career-high 12 batters.
