TOPEKA, Kan. – Southern Arkansas volleyball senior
Amanda Monge has added another accolade to her list after being named to the Daktronics Central Region All-Region Second Team, which was announced Wednesday afternoon based on votes from sports information directors around the region.
Monge becomes the first Lady Mulerider to achieve this feat since Margaret (Maggie) Glover was named to the All-Region Second Team in 2010.
A senior from Porterville, California, Monge was deemed an All-GAC First Team performer a week ago. The outside hitter finished the season with a league-leading 0.51 aces per set and .326 hitting percentage. Monge also ended the season second in the GAC in kills per set (3.45) and points per set (4.25).
Monge fired a career-high 21 kills on three separate occasions this season, all coming in four-set wins over conference opponents. Monge finished off the regular season by adding 20 kills at Henderson State and acing Texas College a career-high seven times.
A two-year letterman at SAU, Monge currently holds the following positions in the SAU individual season record book since 2001: second in attacking percentage (min. 300 kills | .326) and total points (501.0), third in service aces (60), aces per set (min. 90 sets | 0.51) and points per set (min. 90 sets | 4.25), fourth in kills (407) and sixth in kills per set (min. 90 sets | 3.45).
Monge became just the fourth player since 2001 to record 400-plus kills in a season and just the second player since 2001 to account for 500-plus points in a season. The only athlete to score more points than Monge (501.0) in a single season was Brittany Wright in 2003 with 567.0 points.
