ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas volleyball team dropped each of their two matches on Saturday in the final day of the Lady Reddie Classic as they suffered defeats to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (UAH) and the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO).
In the first match of the day, the Lady Muleriders (1-3) took on the Lady Chargers (1-3) of Alabama-Huntsville and the two battled each other to a 28-26 decision in the opening set. UAH would come out on top in that set after they recorded the final three points after SAU was serving for the set at 26-25.
In the second set, UAH would storm out to a 16-6 lead. SAU would battle back with a 9-3 run to cut the deficit to 19-15. Later in the set, the Lady Muleriders would rip off a 4-0 run to close to within two points, 23-21. Following a timeout from UAH, the Lady Chargers would score the next two points on SAU attack errors to secure the set.
Ahead two sets to none, the Lady Chargers would take another large lead as they opened up with a 16-7 advantage. Unlike the set prior, SAU was unable to slow down UAH as the Lady Chargers went on to capture the third and final set, 25-11.
In their second match of the day, SAU ran into an efficient offensive attack by UCO. In the first set, the Lady Bronchos committed just two attack errors while notching 13 kills en route to a 25-16 set one win. The attack errors for UCO would increase in the second set, but their attack percentage would also increase as they collected 13 kills on 28 total attacks to grab the second set 25-19.
In the third set against UCO, the Lady Muleriders show great resolve as they captured several leads during the set. After trailing 14-11, SAU would go on a 6-0 run to take a 17-14 lead. The run would end on a service error and the Lady Bronchos then scored the next nine points to force match-point, 24-17. A kill by Cambria Martin would extend the match, but UCO would get the next point to secure the match win.
Across the two matches, freshman Hailey McNee would register the most kills with 24. Martin (13), Geesing (11), and Monge (10) would join McNee with double-digit kills. Gabby Clark and Hannah Rice split the setting duties during the day's action. Clark would dish out 46 assists while Rice would pass out 16. Starting Libero Lauren Woods would end with the most digs with 37.
The Lady Muleriders will next be in action as part of the Central Baptist College tri-match with CBC and Williams Baptist on Tuesday, September 10. SAU will first take on Williams Baptist at 6 p.m. and end with Central Baptist at 8 p.m.
