MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The No. 12-ranked Southern Arkansas baseball team wrapped up their 2013 regular season on Sunday afternoon with an 11-3 loss to visiting Arkansas-Monticello.
 
The Boll Weevils (29-18, 17-13 GAC), who managed just six runs on 15 hits in the process of being swept by the Muleriders (36-14, 23-7 GAC) a day ago, came back in the series finale on Sunday and nearly doubled their run output as they scored 11 runs on 20 hits.
 
The offensive surge by the Boll Weevils began in the first inning when they scored a run on three hits. Two innings later, UAM chased starter Philip Menou as they scored four more runs on four hits.
 
Prior to the four-run third for UAM, the Muleriders scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead at that time. In that frame, Tyler Cameron led off with a double. Two batters later, Ryan Bell drove Cameron home on a RBI triple to left-centerfield. In the next at-bat, William Townsend successfully laid down a safety squeeze sacrifice bunt, allowing Bell to score the second run for the Muleriders.
 
Both teams would trade single runs over the middle innings as the advantage remained three runs in favor of the Boll Weevils.
 
A single run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth inning opened the game up for the Boll Weevils as they would also hold the Muleriders off the board over the final three innings en route to an 11-3 win.
 
With the regular season now at an end, the Muleriders will turn their attention towards the GAC Baseball Tournament which is set to begin on Saturday, May 4 at Noon at the David Allen Ballpark in Enid, Okla.
 
The Muleriders will enter the tournament as the No.1-seed and out-right regular season champions for the second consecutive year. As the No.1-seed this year, the Muleriders are slated to take on the No. 6-seed Harding Bisons (27-20, 15-15 GAC) on Saturday, May 4 at Noon.
