BETHANY, Okla. – Senior third baseman Brady Capshaw had himself a day and then some as he went 6-for-10 with a double, a homerun, six runs scored, and 12 RBIs across both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Southern Nazarene. Capshaw's monster day at the plate was a big part of the No.13-ranked Southern Arkansas Muleriders' dominant doubleheader sweep as they cranked out 34 runs on 31 hits.

Capshaw and the Muleriders (33-13, 21-6 GAC) began their offensive onslaught in the first inning of the opener as they scored a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. In that inning, after David Harris tripled home Jason Dahl, Capshaw picked up the first of his eventual 12 RBIs as he grounded out to second base.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Crimson Storm (17-25, 9-21 GAC), who upset the Muleriders a day ago, knotted the game up at two-all as they scored twice in the frame. In the next half inning, however, the Muleriders regained a lead they would not relinquish as they broke the game open with four runs on five hits. Fueling the four-run third were two-run homeruns from Harris and Ryan Dardenne.

Two innings later, Jackson McCurdy joined in on the two-run homerun fun as he hit one to left-centerfield to give the Muleriders an 8-2 lead. In the following inning, the Muleriders would score four more runs to swell their lead out to 12-2. In that inning, Capshaw and McCurdy each had two-RBI singles.

Now trailing by 10 runs, the Crimson Storm scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to, at the time, stave off the possibility of a 10-run rule after seven innings. The Crimson Storm run would prove to not be enough to keep the run-rule out of play as the Muleriders ripped off five more runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning to take a 14-run lead, 17-3. In that inning, Capshaw racked up two more RBIs on a double, while Carver Rademacher picked up his first two RBIs on the season on his first hit of the year as he singled to right-centerfield. Ryan Bell's RBI single through the left side would round out the Mulerider scoring in the frame.

The Crimson Storm would score a run in the bottom of the seventh, but starting pitcher Jon Mark Abbey was able to limit it to that one run as he closed out the win with a complete-game. Abbey, who benefited greatly from all the offense, still pitched well enough for a win as he struck out 10 while allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits.

Just as in the opener, Capshaw and the Muleriders started flexing their offensive muscle early in the first inning. This time, the Muleriders would score three runs in the inning. Capshaw drove in the first run in the frame as he collected a RBI while reaching on an error. A batter later, Dardenne belted his second two-run homerun of the day to score Capshaw.

The Crimson Storm would once again threaten to make it a close game as a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first cut the Muleriders' lead to a run, 3-2. In the next half inning, however, the Muleriders scored twice more to extend their lead out 5-2.

After neither team scored in the third, the two teams would combine for three runs in the fourth with the Muleriders scoring twice in the top half. The two runs for the Muleriders came off the sizzling bat of Capshaw as he singled to right field to score William Townsend and Dahl. Prior to Capshaw's two-RBI single, the Crimson Storm intentionally walked Harris to get to Capshaw.

An inning later, the Crimson Storm made the same decision as they intentionally passed on Harris to pitch to Capshaw. This time, the decision to walk Harris loaded the bases. As he did an inning prior, Capshaw made the decision hurt in a big way as he belted a grand slam out to left field to give the Muleriders an 11-3 lead.

The Muleriders would not let up from there are they went on to score six more runs over the final two innings before eventually finishing with the 17-6 win. The doubleheader sweep secured the Muleriders their ninth series win of the season with one more left to play before the 2013 Great American Conference Baseball Tournament.

SAU will next be in action on Tuesday, April 23 as they will travel to Searcy, Ark. to take on Harding University in a single non-conference game starting at 3:00 p.m.
