Mulerider Baseball announces Military Appreciation Day for Saturday, April 6th

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas baseball team has announced that it will host their second-annual “Military Appreciation Day” on Saturday, April 6th as they will take on East Central.

The event, in its second year, provides the Mulerider Baseball team and staff an opportunity to pay tribute to the Armed Forces that are serving, and have served the United States. In doing that, all the Muleriders on the field will don camouflage jerseys that were funded through the generosity of numerous donors. Many of those donors are military veterans, and others donated in honor or in memory of military veterans.

“This is really just our way of saying thank you to all the courageous men and women who have served, and are currently serving our great country,” noted Head Baseball Coach Steve Browning. “It is because of their selflessness that we are able to freely play the great game of baseball, so we want to make sure that we honor them in any way we can.”

The day will begin with a reception from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mulerider Activities Center for current and former military personnel.

Following the reception, Southern Arkansas will take on East Central at 1:00 p.m. inside Goodheart Field at Walker Stadium. Admission will be free for all veterans and current service members.

All of the pre-game ceremonies will begin at 12:50 p.m.

Among the ceremonies will be the Presentation of the Colors by members of the Arkansas Army National Guard, the singing of the National Anthem by Steve Harrell, and the throwing out of the first-pitch by former Mulerider standout pitcher and 2005 Hall of Fame inductee Jimmie Solomon.

In addition to the pre-game ceremonies, the singing of God Bless America will take place after the completion of the top of the seventh inning.
