Box Score

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The No. 17-ranked Southern Arkansas Mulerider baseball team scored eight runs over the final five innings as they collected a 12-7 road win against Henderson State in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Clyde-Berry Field.

In the game, the Muleriders (19-9) raced out to a 4-0 lead after their first at-bats when they took advantage of three walks issued by the Reddies' (14-11) starting pitcher Scott Shimp. David Harris was the first to Mulerider to capitalize on the free passes as he singled into centerfield to score Jason Dahl. Three batters later, Tyler Cameron scored Chris Quinn on a sacrifice fly. After Johnny Garrett was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Ryan Bell delivered a two-run single to centerfield.

After getting out of the top of the first inning, the Reddies would cut the Mulerider lead in half in the bottom of the frame as they scored a pair of runs on three hits off of SAU starter Timothy Buchanan. The Reddies then tied the game at four-all in the bottom of the second inning when Matt Evans drove in a pair of runs on a single into right field.

An inning later, the Reddies jumped ahead for the first time in the game as they scratched across a run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead.

That score would remain until the top of the fifth inning when the Muleriders scored two runs to go back on top, 6-5. An inning later, the Muleriders would extend their lead out to 9-5 as they once more took advantage of three walks issued in an inning by the Reddies. This time, the big hit came from Brady Capshaw as he laced a two-run double down the left field line.

After giving up a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Muleriders doubled their advantage as they scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 12-6 lead. The Reddies would score a run in the bottom of the frame, but were held off the scoreboard in the ninth inning as Tyler Yancey came in and closed out the victory for the Muleriders.

Buchanan (4-1), who worked six complete innings, earned the win. Offensively, Bell and Capshaw paced the Muleriders as the two combined for half of the team's 12 hits. Six different Muleriders drove in a run with Bell leading the way with four RBIs.

The Muleriders will now turn their attention to the weekend as they will travel to Russellville, Ark. to take on the No. 19-ranked Arkansas Tech Wonderboys in a pivotal weekend Great American Conference series. The three-game set is scheduled to begin on Friday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
