Lady Muleriders fall short against No. 2 Southeastern Oklahoma

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DURANT, Okla. – Coming off of a four-game sweep of Arkansas Tech last weekend at home, the Southern Arkansas softball team hit the road to take on No. 2 Southeastern Oklahoma with eyes on pulling the upset, but a pair of closely-played games would not go in favor of the Lady Muleriders as they fell to the Savage Storm by scores of 5-1 and 4-2 on Friday afternoon.

The opening game was a pitcher's duel as the two teams combined for just one run on five hits. The Savage Storm (17-4, 2-0 GAC) had that lone tally as they scored a run in the bottom of the second inning.

A RBI double by Kelsey Fisher in the top of the fourth inning knotted the game up at 1-all. In the bottom of the frame, however, the Savage Storm would go back on top for good as Laramie Bell hit a two-run homerun with two-outs in the inning off of starting pitcher Hanna Gill. The Storm would add two more runs off of Gill in the bottom of the sixth inning as they eventually took the first game 5-1.

Game two was another pitcher's duel as the game saw just 10 hits combined. As in the opening game, the Savage Storm grabbed the early lead.

The Storm would build a 4-0 lead over the Lady Muleriders through the first six innings of the game. In the seventh inning, the Lady Muleriders rallied to score a pair of runs, but a caught stealing ended the threat and gave the Savage Storm the 4-2 win.

The Lady Muleriders and Savage Storm will conclude their four-game series with another doubleheader on Saturday, March 2nd starting at 11 a.m.
