MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Five different Southern Arkansas men's basketball players scored in double-figures in SAU's 91-42 blowout win over Baptist Bible College on Friday night in the W.T. Watson Center.
The 91-point scoring effort is the Muleriders' (2-1) second game this season in which they have scored 90 or more points. The Muleriders weren't far off from that mark in the lone game that they haven't reached that mark as they poured in 86 points against Texas A&M-Commerce this past Wednesday.
Friday night's game as never in question as the Muleriders jumped out to an 11-0 lead through the first five minutes of play. Baptist Bible would net their first field goal at the 15:07 mark of the first half as Martin Minnins made good on a jumper. That make by Minnis sparked a 7-0 Patriot (1-0) run over the next 1:26 to cut the Muleriders' lead down to four points, 11-7.
That four-point deficit would be as close as the Patriots would come as the Muleriders ripped off a 9-0 run that took nearly three minutes off the clock to swell their lead back to double digits. SAU would lead by as many as 31 points before closing out the half with a 29-point advantage, 46-17.
In that first half, forward
Jeffrey Walker led all scorers with an ultra-efficient 14 points as he was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field. Fellow forward
Alre'k Brown was impressive as well as he hauled in 10 rebounds (eight on the defensive glass) and scored seven first-half points. Guard
Tyrell Taylor was pacing much of the Muleriders' offensive production in the first half as he dished out six assists.
Not much was different in the second half as the Muleriders needed just five minutes of play to extend their lead out to 40 points. With 12:41 remaining, SAU pushed their lead out to a dominant 51 points, 78-27 as
Duke Reed layed one in. The Muleriders would maintain about a 50-point advantage for the remainder of the game. Once the final buzzer sounded, SAU came out with a 49-point win, 91-42.
For the game, Walker and Reed led all scorers with 18 points.
Nemo Sanchez followed with 15 points, all of which came on three-pointers. Brown and
