Stanton joins SAU from Highland Community College in Kansas where he spent the previous two seasons. Last season, he coached the wide receivers along with being the special team’s coordinator and video coordinator.

In that season, Stanton coached one All-KJCCC First-Team wide receiver. Stanton also helped the Scotties finish the season ranked No. 16 in the country as well as reaching the highest ranking in school history of No. 14 earlier that season.

In 2015, Stanton coached the running backs which yielded one All-KJCCC First-Teamer. Additionally, Stanton was the position coach that year for Marquis Terry, who was a NJCAA All-America First-Team and KJCCC Player of the Year for Highland in 2016.

Prior to Highland, Stanton was a graduate assistant at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. There he coached defensive backs while helping with special teams. During the 2014 season, he coached one MSFA All-Conference player.

Before his stop at Olivet, Stanton worked at Mayville State University in North Dakota. There he coached the defensive secondary as well as being the special team’s coordinator. During the 2013 season, Stanton coached three NSAA All-Conference First-Team defensive backs. The secondary finished in the top-five in the NAIA in pass defense and was No. 1 in the nation in pass defense efficiency. The defense that season also finished in the top-12 in the NAIA in scoring defense and top-10 in interceptions.

As a player himself, Stanton attended Sterling College in Sterling, KS. There he was a three-year letter winner playing wide receiver and cornerback. Stanton graduated from Sterling with his B.S. in Athletic Training in 2013.
