Landon Simpson enters into his first season as an assistant coach with the Southern Arkansas baseball team.
Prior to joining the coaching staff, Simpson was a standout starting pitcher for the Muleriders for the 2015 & 2016 seasons. In his junior season in 2015, Simpson was a workhorse on the mound setting a SAU single-season record for starts with 17 and his 115.0 innings pitched that year are the second-most in a season for a pitcher. By season’s end, Simpson sported a 10-4 record and a 2.66 ERA.
That year, Simpson was tabbed as an All-GAC First-Team starting pitcher as he ended up leading the league in wins (10), innings pitched (115.0), games started (17), shutouts (4) and strikeouts (74).
Simpson, a Magnolia native, also went on to be named the GAC Tournament MVP while also earning All-Central Region Second-Team honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Daktronics.
For his career at SAU, Simpson went 14-8 with a 3.58 ERA. In 183.2 innings, Simpson would register 131 strikeouts as a Mulerider.
