Christopher Townsend enters his first year as a graduate assistant with the Southern Arkansas University baseball program and will be assisting with the Mulerider outfielders.

Townsend comes to SAU after a four-year career at the University of Central Arkansas where he played for former Mulerider Baseball head coach Allen Gum. Playing both the infield and outfield for the Bears, Townsend posted a .278 career batting average, and played a key role in helping the Bears capture their first Southland Conference title and make their first NCAA regional appearance as a freshman in 2013.

As a senior, Townsend recorded a .340 batting average (49-for-144) and was an All-Southland Conference selection that same year. Townsend received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing in 2016 at UCA and is now pursuing a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration at SAU.

Townsend graduated from South Panola HS in Batesville, Miss. in 2012. While at South Panola, Townsend played under head coach Patrick Robey from 2009-2012. Through those years he earned: 2010 Mississippi Division 2-6A Second Team, 2011 Mississippi Division 2-6A Offensive Player of the Year, 2011 Under Armour Preseason All-American, and 2012 Mississippi Division 2-6A First Team honors.
