Muleriders Down Lions in First Conference Match

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Men's Tennis team collected their first conference win of the spring season today in Fort Smith, Arkansas as they defeated the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Lions by a final of 5-2.
 
The men began doubles play losing the doubles point as Jonas Sommer and Uwe Diehl fell at line one 2-6 followed by Balsa Djokovic and Taiki Minamino falling at line three 5-7. Frode Neumann and Lucas Nitzschke were the only pairing to win their doubles match as they took it at line two 7-6.
 
Despite being down 0-1 entering singles play, the Muleriders started off hot as Balsa Djokovic defeated his foe at line three in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Jonas Sommer added on another point for the men at line four winning again in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 as the men took the lead 2-1. Shun Wakino extended the SAU lead winning at line five 6-4, 6-0. Lucas Nitzschke clinched the match for the Muleriders at line one winning in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 as the men went up 4-1. Frode Neumann then added on another point for the men at line two winning in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 4-2. Taiki Minamino fell at line six 6-7, 4-6 but the Muleriders walked away victorious as they started conference play off on the right foot.

The men will be back in action this Thursday, March 12th at the Live Oak Tennis Courts on the campus of Southern Arkansas University for a match against Emporia State. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
