Men’s Tennis Set for Week-long Road Trip

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Men's Tennis team are set for their week-long road trip that takes them to three different states including, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama.
 
The men will begin their road trip in Meridian, Mississippi for three matches in two days. They will begin the stretch with a match against Meridian Community College at 11:00 a.m on Monday, March 23rd. They will then play the University of Montevallo on Monday, March 23rd at 1:30 p.m. Their last match of their stay in Mississippi will be against the No. 31 ranked University of West Alabama on Tuesday, March 24th at 11:00 a.m.
 
The men will then make the drive over to Pensacola, Florida as they face the No. 1 ranked University of West Florida on Thursday, March 26th at 1:00 p.m. To finish their week-long trip, the men will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama for a match against Spring Hill College on Friday, March 27th at 1:00 p.m.
 
The men enter the weekend with a 7-5 overall record after losing their last match to No. 5 ranked Washburn University by a final of 0-4. Before the loss to Washburn, the Muleriders were riding a three-match win streak with wins over UAFS, Emporia State, and Northeastern State. SAU is currently ranked 47th as a team in the ITA rankings.
 
Meridian CC
Meridian CC enters the match with a 4-5 overall record and are 2-4 in both conference and region play. The Eagles currently ride a four-game losing skid with their last win coming on February 24th against East Central Community College.
 
Montevallo
Montevallo comes into the match with a 4-4 overall record and are 1-3 in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons enter on a two-game losing skid with their last win coming on March 14th against Spring Hill College by a final of 6-1. The doubles pairing of Guilherme Gracioli and Simon Luigs are currently ranked 49th in the ITA Division II doubles rankings. The duo is 5-4 in their doubles matches.
 
No. 31 West Alabama
West Alabama comes into the meeting ranked 31st in the ITA team rankings and are 7-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They are currently riding a three-game win streak while their only losses of the year came against West Florida, UT-Tyler and Midwestern State University. Jacob Tapia and Frederico Iturbe enter as the No. 30 ranked doubles pairing in the ITA rankings. Matias Iturbe is ranked No. 23 in singles play.
 
No. 1 West Florida
West Florida comes into the match ranked 1st in the ITA team rankings and are 13-1 overall and 5-0 in Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts are riding a 10-game winning streak with their last loss coming against Barry University on February 15th. West Florida has four players ranked in the singles standings including Diego Duran (No. 3), Sebastian Rondon (No. 4), Rafael Sabio (No. 57), and Mateo Martinez (No. 66). The Argonauts also have the top ranked doubles duo in the nation with Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duran.
 
Spring Hill College
Spring Hill comes into the match with a 7-6 overall record and are 5-1 in conference play. The Badgers most recently won against Mobile 4-3 but also fell to Montevallo on March 14th 1-6.
