MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (10-6, 5-2 GAC) fell tonight in game one of their three game GAC series to the Arkansas Tech University Wonder Boys (9-8, 6-1 GAC) by a final score of 4-1.
The two teams took the field tonight looking to take an early lead in the series as both pitchers got to work early on the mound. A quick first inning from both teams followed by a three up and three down top and bottom of the second inning from both pitchers turned the game into an early pitcher's duel as
Eli Hutcherson for the Muleriders and Cole Dickson settled in both for long outings. Both pitchers worked efficiently as the game headed into the top of the sixth inning still scoreless. The Wonder Boys struck first in the top of the sixth inning as ATU broke the ice to take a 1-0 lead. A scoreless bottom of the sixth followed by a scoreless seventh from both teams saw the Wonder Boys add three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0 after the top of the eighth inning. The Muleriders finally broke the ice for themselves as
Tate Elliott homered to left field disrupting the shutout bid from ATU but the Muleriders offense couldn't get anything going tonight as the Wonder Boys took game one of the series.
