Muleriders drop road match at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. — After having nearly a week off from action because of icy roads, the Muleriders hit the road into central Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Baptist to resume action in the Great American Conference. Coming off the break, SAU looked to continue its momentum that the group had built after winning two straight, but ended up being defeated 82-57 on the road.

Kadia Ward and Elena Lijo-Rodriguez tied as the lead scorers for Southern Arkansas, as both tallied up 13 points. Elena ended up leading the Muleriders in rebounds as well, accounting for eight boards. The Spaniard, and reigning GAC co-Defensive Player of the Week, had another incredible defensive showing, as the senior recorded season-highs of six blocks and three steals.

The game opened competitively, with SAU holding their own early. The Muleriders scored 18 first-quarter points but trailed as OBU narrowly outpaced them 21–18. Southern Arkansas hit shots and showed energy, but Oklahoma Baptist's efficiency gave them the slim early edge.

The second period proved difficult for the Muleriders. SAU scored just 7 points while the Bison offense clicked, piling on 21 points to take control of the game heading into halftime, 42-25.

After the break, the Muleriders improved on both ends but still could not erase the deficit. SAU posted 16 third-quarter points, but the Bison scored 14, extending their overall lead. While Southern Arkansas showed resilience and some defensive adjustments, the gap remained sizable as they entered the final quarter, 56-41.

In the final quarter, the Muleriders again scored 16 points, but OBU put together its strongest frame yet with 26 points to close out the game, winning the game 82-57.
