MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (21-13, 14-7) fell to the University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils (21-13, 14-7) by a final score of 10-5.
The Boll Weevils struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run and taking an early lead, 1-0. The Muleriders then struck with a run of their own in the top of the second inning after
Trace Shoup led off with a double to center field and was immediately followed a single from Cater Claerhout to score Shoup as SAU tied the game at 1-1.
The bottom of the second saw UAM retake the lead as they scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead after two complete innings. Neither team was able to plate a run in the third inning, but the Muleriders were able to cut the Boll Weevil lead to just one as they plated two runs in the top of the fourth.

Peyton Ballard then singled up the middle to drive in
Trace Shoup for the second run of the inning and after the top of the fourth inning UAM led 4-3.
The bottom of the fifth inning saw UAM score another three runs and extend their lead to 7-3. The Boll Weevils then scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and one run in the bottom of the seventh inning as they took a commanding 10-3 lead. The Muleriders then cut into the lead again in the top of the eighth inning as
Jared Rhodes grounded out to the second basemen allowing
Trace Shoup to score, 10-4. A
Trace Shoup single into center field in the top of the ninth plated
Brandon Nicoll but UAM still led 10-5. The Muleriders were unable to complete the comeback, and the Boll Weevils won the midweek.

The Muleriders are back in action this weekend as they play the Harding University Bisons for a three game GAC series. Friday, April 4th will see a single game scheduled for 6:00 PM followed by a double header on Saturday, April 5th starting at 2:00 PM.
