ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Team 27 of the Mulerider Softball program traveled to Clark County for their three-game Great American Conference series against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. Southern Arkansas picked right back up where the unit had left off from Wednesday as the Blue and Gold swept the Tigers on the day and the scoreboard with a pair of shutout run-rule victories at Langston Field. SAU ended their Friday with a 9-0 triumph in five innings and an 11-0 win in six.
The Muleriders were led in circle for both outings by the Statesboro, Georgia native
Brinson Rogers as the senior accounted for 20 strikeouts against 34 batters. Overall, she did not allow a single walk or hit batter to take place and capped off the day with just three hits in 10.0 innings pitched. Closing out game two in the circle for the Muleriders was
Jaycie Hall as the senior from Paris, Texas struck out one batter and forced a ground and fly out while only giving up one hit.
For the Southern Arkansas bats, game one saw a 12-hit outing that was led by
Jenna Huey as the senior went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, and a three-run home run. In that first game, the Muleriders accounted for two home runs with a
Payton Owens three-run home run of her own in the top of the second and then three doubles coming off the bats of
Savannah Clausen,
Sophia Stoddard, and
Cassidy Lear.
Game two, while having just half the hits of game one, saw plenty of scoring by the Blue and Gold as the group scored three runs on three Ouachita Baptist errors all in the bottom of the third inning.
America Rubio accounted for the lone dinger in the contest as she homered down the left-field line for a solo shot. The Muleriders closed the game out in the sixth as the group scored five runs on just one hit in the top of the inning with three straight walks, a fielder's choice to score a run, a stolen second base, a walk, a single to center field, another reaching on a fielder's choice, a walk, and one more reaching on a fielder's choice. Nine different Muleriders scored a run in game number two as Owens recorded her first home run in the Blue and Gold while also seeing freshman
Kinsley Birdwell plate the first collegiate run of her career.
Throughout the doubleheader, the bats stayed live as the Muleriders only saw two at-bats ending in a strikeout.
