MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (18-11, 12-6) completed the weekend series sweep over the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs (16-11, 7-10) winning game three by a final score of 7-3.
The Muleriders got the scoring started in today's game as
Jayden Hill belted a sacrifice fly to deep right field scoring
Jaden Woolbright and giving SAU a 1-0 lead. After the Muleriders pushed one run across in the bottom of the first, both pitchers hunkered down delivering scoreless second and third innings until SWOSU broke the ice in the top of the fourth.
The Bulldogs finally broke through by scoring one run in the top of the fourth inning after a bases-loaded walk evened the score at 1-1. However, just as they had done seemingly all series the Muleriders answered in the bottom of the fourth in a big way with all of the damage coming with two outs.
Trace Shoup got the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth as he scored on a wild pitch.
Grant Roosma then worked a walk and was followed by a
Peyton Ballard single allowing
Jack Roubik to score, 3-1.
Jaden Woolbright then worked a walk, forcing the Bulldogs to change pitchers.
Lee Matsuzaki then came up big singling into right field and collecting two RBIs as
Grant Roosma and
Peyton Ballard both scored, 5-1.
Brandon Nicoll then stepped to the plate one batter later and doubled into right-center field allowing Woolbright to score and SAU gaining a 6-1 lead heading into the fifth inning.
The Blue and Gold once again extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Jack Roubik hit a home run over the left field fence for his second in as many days. SWOSU would try to mount the comeback scoring one run in the top of the seventh and ninth innings but the Muleriders' pitching and defense proved to be too much as SAU walked away with another weekend series sweep.
Carter Gaston had an outstanding start on the mound today for the Muleriders. The Junior from Homer, Louisiana threw seven complete innings allowing two runs and five hits while striking out five Bulldogs en route to his second victory of the season.
