Box Score 3 PLANO, Texas - The Southern Arkansas Women's Tennis team showcased their strength this past weekend, securing two dominant victories against St. Petersburg 6-1 and Tyler Junior College 4-0, before falling to #15 Angelo State 2-5.
The Muleriders opened the weekend with a 6-1 victory over St. Petersburg and claimed the doubles point by commanding 6-2 wins from Josie Holderbach and Ifigeneia Kafka at line two and from Inna Serpukhova and Roksana Kokocha at line three. In singles play, Southern Arkansas dominated and claimed wins on lines two through six. Holderbach secured her victory at line two after her opponent retired with the score of 6-0. Maria Fiacan delivered a strong performance at line three, winning 6-3, 6-0, while Kafka followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at line four. Camila Corrales and Honoka Yoshimura took care of business on lines five and six with dominating 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 wins.
The Muleriders kept their momentum securing a 4-0 sweep over Tyler Junior College. Once again, Southern Arkansas claimed the doubles point by wins from Holderbach/Kafka and Serpukhova/Kokocha with scores of 6-3 and 6-4 respectively. In singles play, Corrales claimed the second point after a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win at line six while Kokocha shortly after finished her match with a 6-0, 6-4 score at line five. Holderbach continued showing great form winning 6-1, 6-2 at line two to clinch the match for the Muleriders.
Facing a tough challenge against nationally ranked #15 Angelo State, Southern Arkansas fought hard but fell 2-5. The Muleriders started by claiming their third straight doubles point as the doubles teams of Amelie Gindl and Fiacan at line two and Serpukhova and Kokocha at line three both won 6-2. Angelo State responded in singles play, and Holderbach was the lone victor in singles, delivering a standout 6-1, 6-0 performance at line one.
The Muleriders finished the weekend with a 2-1 record while showing dominating play in both doubles and singles. Southern Arkansas claimed all three doubles points with Serpukhova and Kokocha performing an undefeated record at line three. The Muleriders are returning to the match court next week as they are gearing up for a busy week of matches, traveling to Cleveland, Mississippi on Tuesday (March 4) and to Midlothian, Texas, next weekend.
