MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After three of last weekend's matches were postponed due to inclement weather, the Mulerider Men's and Women's Tennis teams are preparing for a pair of home matches against UT Tyler and Arkansas Fort Smith this weekend.
The Mulerider Women enter their home opener on a three-match winning streak, having defeated Delta State, McKendree, and Western New Mexico last week. Amelie Gindl remains ranked in the nation's top 10 in singles, while Josie Holderbach made a significant jump to No. 31. Maria Fiacan boasts an impressive 7-1 record this spring and currently holds a national singles ranking of No. 65.
UT Tyler's women's team is ranked No. 31 nationally, holding a 5-4 overall record with victories over Great American Conference teams like Harding and Henderson State. Last season, the Muleriders edged out the Patriots 4-3 in Tyler, Texas, with Holderbach securing the match at line four in a three-set thriller.
On the men's side, UT Tyler enters the matchup ranked No. 12 in the nation, with two players ranked No. 6 and No. 37 in singles. The Patriots also have two doubles teams ranked No. 3 and No. 33 nationally. With an 8-1 overall record, they recently secured wins against Northwest Missouri State and Arkansas Fort Smith. Last year, UT Tyler blanked the Muleriders 4-0 on their home courts.
The Arkansas Fort Smith women's team is still seeking its first win of the season after recent losses to No. 1 Midwestern State, Cameron, and No. 31 UT Tyler.
On the men's side, the Lions hold a 2-6 overall record, with one doubles team ranked No. 41 nationally and two singles players ranked No. 33 and No. 68. They recently fell to No. 9 Midwestern State and No. 12 UT Tyler.
The first serve against UT Tyler is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday (March 15) while match start on Sunday (March 16) against Arkansas Fort Smith is set for 1 p.m.
