BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Team 27 (6-3 | 0-0) started day two at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic with a pair of matchups against Northeastern State (4-4 | 0-0) and the defending national champions top-ranked UT-Tyler (9-0 | 0-0). The Muleriders split the second day in Bentonville as the Blue and Gold defeated the RiverHawks 3-0 for the team's third-consecutive shutout victory. The following contest versus the top-ranked Patriots did not fair in SAU's favor as UT-Tyler proved its ranking with a final of 0-8.
Vs. Northeastern State (W, 3-0)
Yet another defensive struggle for the Muleriders was seen in the opening contest of the group's second day in Bentonville as neither team could draw first blood until the top of the fourth, which was of course by the Blue and Gold. That run came off a double from the 4-hole
Savannah Clausen to score
Jocelyn Ulrich.
The two squads were back in a stalemate until the Muleriders tacked on a homerun by
Regan Dillon in the sixth inning (2-0) followed by a bomb from
Jenna Huey in the seventh (3-0).
Brinson Rogers made her fourth start of the season (fifth appearance) and achieved her second complete game of the season. In her 7.0-inning outing, Rogers allowed just one hit and two walks against 25 batters while also striking out 10 batters for consecutive days with 10 or more Ks in a game.
Players of the Game:
Brinson Rogers: One complete game and 10 Ks
Regan Dillon: 1-3 batting and one homerun
Jenna Huey: 1-3 batting and one homerun
Savannah Clausen: 1-3 batting, one double, and one RBI
Vs. #1 UT-Tyler (L, 0-8)
The defending national champions showed how why they have that title as the group stunned Southern Arkansas with an impressive display of pitching and batting having only allowed one hit and forcing 11 of their own.
The Patriots gained control early in the second inning as the nation's top-ranked team put up three crooked numbers with a single to score, a triple to score, and another single to score. UT-Tyler had seized all momentum in the contest from then on as the group cruised to its ninth win of the season for the 0-8 final.
