DURANT, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (9-13, 6-10) fell to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Savage Storm (8-14, 6-10) in Durant, Oklahoma Saturday afternoon.
The Muleriders would open the scoring up with a made three pointer from Carel Ray Jr to take a 3-0 lead just 15 seconds into the contest. The two teams would battle throughout the first four plus minutes but the Savage Storm would take an 8-7 lead at the 15:48 mark in the first half. The Muleriders would take the lead back at the 14:46 mark and would try to pull away from Southeastern but their offense proved resilient retaking the lead with 8:58 to go in the first half, 22-20.
Both teams would continue to exchange blows throughout the remainder of first half with two more lead changes but the Savage Storm would take a four-point 38-34 lead into half time.
The Savage Storm came out of halftime continuing their momentum taking a four-point lead with 14:58 to go in the second half, 52-48. The Muleriders would find their groove on offense and take a 71-69 lead with 5:39 to go. SAU would hold the lead until Southeastern tied the game at 75 all. The Savage Storm would take the lead with 1:57 to go in the second half and not look back winning by a final score of 82-87.
Despite the loss, the Muleriders had three players finish scoring double-digits in the game including
BJ Davis (21),
Carel Ray Jr. (19), and
Christian Caldwell (10).
