MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University women's tennis team is gearing up for a weekend of three matches with a doubleheader on Friday (Feb. 28) against Tyler Junior College and St. Petersburg College, followed by a matchup on Saturday (March 1), against No. 15 Angelo State.
The Muleriders are looking to bounce back after a 2-5 loss to West Florida last weekend. Despite the setback, SAU has had strong individual performances, with junior Maria Fiacan maintaining an undefeated 3-0 record at No. 3 singles, while Roksana Kokocha has also remained unbeaten at No. 5 singles with a 2-0 record.
The first serve of the weekend is set for 9 a.m. on Friday.
St. Petersburg College | Feb. 28, 2025 10 a.m. | 0-1 Overall
St. Petersburg College has a 0-1 record after falling 2-5 to the University of Tampa. This will mark the first-ever meeting between SAU and St. Petersburg.
Tyler Junior College | Feb. 28, 2025 | 3 p.m. | 0-3 Overall
TJC enters the matchup with a 0-3 record this season, having suffered losses to Louisiana-Lafayette, UT Tyler, and McNeese. Despite their slow start, the Apaches boast a top talent in sophomore Yee Ching Wai, who claimed the ITA Cup Singles Championship title in the fall as the Women's JUCO Singles Champion. Historically, SAU is 0-2 against TJC, with their last meeting in the spring of 2019 ending in a 6-2 victory for the Apaches.
#15 Angelo State | March 1, 2025 12 p.m. | 7-0 Overall
Following the doubleheader, the Muleriders will face the undefeated No. 15 Angelo State. The Rambelles have been dominant this season, securing wins over Great American Conference teams Arkansas Tech (4-0) and Ouachita Baptist (5-2). Angelo State's doubles team of Eva Schwartz and Avery Durham is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation. Historically, SAU holds a 1-2 record against Angelo State, but in their last meeting during the spring of 2024, the Muleriders emerged victorious with a 4-2 win. They will look to replicate that success and hand Angelo State its first loss of the season.
