MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Head Coach
Darrick Matthews and his Muleriders get set for their second road action of the season, with the Blue and Gold packing their bags for a trip to Cleveland, Mississippi, where Southern Arkansas will face former Gulf South Conference foe Delta State. The Muleriders' match with the Lady Statesmen is set for Tuesday (Nov. 18) at noon inside the Walter Sillers Coliseum.

SAU Notables
Southern Arkansas' season has already gotten off on the right foot, as the Muleriders began their new campaign at the group's eighth-consecutive Central Region Challenge. The unit tipped off the season 2-0 in the region challenge after defeating the Newman Jets 86-68 and the hosting Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions 79-76 in thrilling fashion.
The Blue and Gold saw production from multiple returners, but saw some very impressive beginnings and outings by newcomers to Mulerider Country. Junior transfer
Kadia Ward had herself an impressive weekend, as the native of Duncanville, Texas, currently leads the squad in boards with 16, and tallied the group's first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds against Newman.
Also new to not only the Blue and Gold, but also collegiate hoops, are freshmen
Hope Bump and
Blythe Crawley. The two freshmen began their careers in the college world of basketball, combining for 80 points after Bump recorded 38 and Crawley accounted for 42.
Series History vs. Delta State
The Muleriders and the Lady Statesmen will meet for the second year in a row and the 36
th time all-time. Last year's meeting between the two former conference foes saw Delta State win the matchup in an incredibly low-scoring affair, with a final score of 42-41. The Muleriders look to get their first win over the Lady Statesmen since the GSC days, back to January 1, 2007.
DSU Notables
The Lady Statesmen got a slightly early head start to competition, as the group took on the NCAA DI University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana, for an exhibition and came out on top against the Ragin' Cajuns 76-68
To begin the official season, the group took on Miles College in the GSC/SIAC Crossover. Delta State went on the road for the matchup in Fairfield, Alabama. The Lady Statesmen were upended by the Golden Bears in the matchup, 69-61.
The leading scorer for the Lady Statesmen in that outing was Jariyah Williamson with 15 points. The sophomore guard accounted for those points primarily from beyond the arc, after making four of her ten shots from deep.
The unit also saw a double-double in the season-opening action as Dakiya Toney recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds.
