MAGNOLIA, Ark. – #22/24 Southern Arkansas dropped both ends of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader against Arkansas Tech inside Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field. The Muleriders lost the day's first game 12-6 after grabbing a 6-4 lead through four innings and suffered a 7-1 defeat in the series finale to fall to 23-14 overall and 15-9 in Great American Conference play which moves SAU down into a tie for fourth place.
Will Richardson launched a three-run homer in the home half of the third inning in the opener to tie the game at 4-4 and
Brandon Nicoll ripped a two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning to give Southern Arkansas a 6-4 lead. ATU answered in the top of the fifth with four runs and tacked on three more in the eighth and one in the ninth as part of a 17-hit game for the Wonder Boys.
A five-run Tech second staked the visitors to an early lead in game two as the Muleriders managed just a single run on four hits, two from Nicoll who moved into third place all-time in career doubles, in the finale.
Nine arms saw action for the Muleriders on Saturday.
Stetson Bishop and
Treshon Paschal each picked up a pair of strikeouts in relief action.
SAU pushed across seven runs on 13 hits of which five went for extra bases. Nicoll doubled twice on the day and Richardson homered and double. ATU recorded 29 hits and 19 runs.
