Southern Arkansas swept by ATU, drops to fourth in GAC standings

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – #22/24 Southern Arkansas dropped both ends of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader against Arkansas Tech inside Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field. The Muleriders lost the day's first game 12-6 after grabbing a 6-4 lead through four innings and suffered a 7-1 defeat in the series finale to fall to 23-14 overall and 15-9 in Great American Conference play which moves SAU down into a tie for fourth place.

Will Richardson launched a three-run homer in the home half of the third inning in the opener to tie the game at 4-4 and Brandon Nicoll ripped a two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning to give Southern Arkansas a 6-4 lead. ATU answered in the top of the fifth with four runs and tacked on three more in the eighth and one in the ninth as part of a 17-hit game for the Wonder Boys.

A five-run Tech second staked the visitors to an early lead in game two as the Muleriders managed just a single run on four hits, two from Nicoll who moved into third place all-time in career doubles, in the finale.

Nine arms saw action for the Muleriders on Saturday. Stetson Bishop and Treshon Paschal each picked up a pair of strikeouts in relief action.
