#24 Muleriders down Arkansas-Monticello in seven

Southern Arkansas wins fourth straight with run-rule victory over longtime rivals

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Stetson Bishop tossed 4.2 innings scattering seven hits, relievers Austin Adair and Treshon Paschal delivered quality efforts and #24 Southern Arkansas struck for nine runs over the first three innings of play en route to a 11-0 run-rule win over longtime and bitter league rival Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday night inside a windy Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.

The run support for Bishop (W, 1-0), who won his first game as a Mulerider and lowered his ERA under 1.00, crossed early and often as SAU pushed across three runs in the first inning, added one in the second and plated five more in the third, before single tallies crossed in the fifth and sixth frames for the host's eighth run-rule victory of the season.

Bishop faced 21 batters using eight fly outs and a pair of groundouts with three strikeouts. He stranded Weevils in the second, third and fourth innings before being relieved by Adair with two outs in the sixth and the bags loaded. Adair tossed around the jam and worked through a leadoff single in the top of the sixth, before Paschal gassed up a trio of UAM hitters swinging in the seventh.

Grant Roosma (6th HR) and Brandon Nicoll (11th) homered in consecutive at bats with towering shots out to right field and center field, respectively, to open scoring for the Muleriders in the home half of the first. Jaden Woolbright pushed across a third run with a sacrifice fly in the first and Mikey McGinnis scored on a wild pitch in the second.

Woolbright crossed on a wild pitch as SAU's fifth run, Clay Burrows singled up the middle to push across two more and Chris Lyles (4th HR) muscled a pitch into the wind and out of the park in left centerfield for a two-run shot to cap the aforementioned five-run third. A walk to Roosma in the fifth scored a run and Burrows delivered run-rule insurance with an RBI-single in the seventh.

Burrows led the 11-hit effort with three base knocks and three RBI. Lyles and Roosma each recorded two RBI. Will Richardson, who doubled and tripled, and McGinnis each scored twice. Lyles also recorded two hits. Richardson delivered his team-leading 14th multi-hit games to match Nicoll in the category. Woolbright reached for the 12th straight game.
