Muleriders sweep Ouachita Baptist with dominant team play

Rogers and Ward combine for 12 strikeouts in series finale victory over the Tigers

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Muleriders move onto 24-11 overall while also hitting the 13-7 mark in the Great American Conference after having swept Ouachita Baptist with a series finale final score of 7-1 to end the weekend. Southern Arkansas is tied with Southeastern Oklahoma State in the league standings
 
Southern Arkansas held the shutout for six innings as they entered the seventh up 7-0. A late Tigers' rally added the final run for Ouachita Baptist as Remington Adams batted in senior Maggie Huddleston who came into pinch hit for OUA.
 
The Tigers' retaliation was all for not as SAU ended the group's stretch with the final out coming by the arm of Sydney Ward.
 
Game Three
SAU W, 7-1
Team 26 secured the win with superior pitching the day's starter, Brinson Rogers, who waved nine batters while only allowing three hits and one walk. Rogers faced 17 batters in the Tigers' lineup and was assisted by a pair of fly outs and ground outs. To end her weekend, Rogers retired 24 batters via strikeout.
 
The Peach State native pitched the first five innings before being relieved for senior Ward. The Paris, Arkansas product accounted for three strikeouts including the game-ending KS to Kennedy Wilkie. Ward faced ten batters in which she allowed four hits and a one earned run while also being assisted by four ground outs.
 
Southern Arkansas credited themselves seven runs in the outing as five Muleriders rewarded the team at least one run while seven batters recorded at least one hit as the team was responsible for ten.
 
Haley Nillen and Kamryn Moctezuma each accounted for a triple while Regan Dillon and Gracie King both recorded at least one double with King having two. Cassidy Lear was responsible for a pair of hits against the Tigers while also reaching home to score a pair of runs all with three at-bats.
 
On Deck
Southern Arkansas now takes to the road as they will travel to Russellville, Arkansas for the annual meeting with the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns this next week as the series is bumped up to Thursday-Friday due to the total solar eclipse set for the coming weekend.
