MAGNOLIA, Ark. - #11 Southern Arkansas moved past Harding on Thursday afternoon from the Live Oak Tennis Courts as the Muleriders used wins at singles lines 1 through 4 to dispatch the Lady Bisons 5-2 in the Great American Confernece opener for both teams. The victory improves SAU to 16-1 overall, 6-0 at home in 2024 and to 15-7 all-time in GAC action.
Amelie Gindl and Josei Holderbach opened doubles play with the duo's eighth win this season in a 6-0 result against HU's Reka Pecsi and Georgia Plunkett at No. 2. Harding rallied at line one after claiming the action at No. 3 as Romane Britt and Karli Roux edged No. 6
Annika Berrendorf and
Greta Wallin 7-6 (7-3).Â
It was nearly all Southern Arkansas in singles action as Wallin beat Grace Dodd (6-1, 7-6 (7-4)), Berrendorf topped Roux (7-5, 6-2), Gindl rallied and outlasted Alexia Zarate Valdez (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) and Holderbach defeated Britt (6-4, 6-1).
Wallin earned her seventh win at the top spot in the lineup, Berrendorf won her ninth straight and for the 13th time at No. 2 and Gindl continued the hot start to her rookie campaign with her 15th consecutive victory to remain unbeaten at No. 3 at 12-0. Like Gindl, Holderbach's scorching beginning to year one as a Mulerider saw her remain undefeated on the season at 12-0 as she improved to 8-0 at No. 4.Â
Lisa Lochter cruised at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 showing against Natalia Alvarez. The victory is the ninth for Lochter this season, her third-straight and her first at line six.Â
Southern Arkansas stares down the final quarter of its regular season schedule as six matches remain including its next four against GAC foes. The Muleriders return to action on Wednesday, April 3 in Durant, Oklahoma to take on Southeastern Oklahoma. SAU is 2-3 against the Savage Storm since 2018-19 and were defeated in their lone action on the road.Â
