MAGNOLIA, Ark. - A relentless effort unfolded for #35 Southern Arkansas on Thursday afternoon from inside the Live Oak Tennis Courts as the Muleriders grabbed momentum with a doubles point victory and then proceeded to sweep the singles action to win 7-0 over Harding. The win moves SAU to 11-6 on the season, to 2-1 in MIAA-GAC South Division play and gives the Muleriders its fifth-consecutive victory over the Bisons.
Tim Fischer and
Pierre Copin opened play with a 6-1 win over Harding's Caleb Folse and Jaydon Van Vreden at No. 3. The point was clinched at No. 2 with
Ole Valkyser and
Matthew Tennant putting down Dani Ortiz and Teodor Zlatar 6-2. Action at No. 1 ended unfinished with SAU's
Adrian Gheorghe and
Lluc Pasqual leading 5-1.
Fischer and Copin went on to bookend the action for SAU in singles play. #50 Fischer outlasted Ortiz at No. 1 by a final of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 and Copin withstood Folse at No. 6 in a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) decision. #66 Valkyser picked up a top 50 win with a 6-4, 7-5 showing against #46 Teodor at No. 2.
Frode Neumann rallied at No. 3 to win 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (9-7), 10-7 and claim a top 30 foe in #30 Cas de Ruiter. Tennant cruised against HU's Angullo Diaz Munio 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 and Pasqual won 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) at No. 5.
Fischer, Copin, Neumann and Pasqual each won for the ninth time in singles play with Valkyser claiming his 11th singles victory of 2024. Tennant picked up his fifth singles victory this spring.
The Muleriders close out South Division play against Southeastern Oklahoma State on April 3 in Durant. It is the first of three remaining matches currently on the schedule as SAU will play MIAA-GAC North Division foes Nebraska-Kearney and Washburn on back-to-back days in Edmond, Oklahoma in late April.
