MAGNOLIA, Ark. – It was a tough afternoon for #21 Southern Arkansas on Saturday from inside the Dr. Margaret Downing Softball Complex. The Muleriders dropped both ends of its Great American Conference doubleheader with Harding to surrender the series to the Lady Bisons, but weren't without opportunities as SAU left 21 runners on base in the DH sweep. HU won the day's first game 3-1 and took the series finale 4-2. Southern Arkansas' record falls to 13-6 and 4-2 in league play, while the Lady Bisons improve to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
In the opener, Southern Arkansas stranded runners in every inning but the second and left the bases loaded in the third, fifth and seventh innings. In the final frame, and trailing 3-0, the Muleriders put together a four-hit inning to load the bases with just one out, but were unable to push across more than a single run as a fielder's choice off the bat of
Jenna Huey served as the lone scoring tally for SAU in game two.
Brinson Rogers went the distance for SAU and suffered her fourth loss of the season. She scattered four hits and a pair of walks, while punching out ten batters.
Regan Dillon led with three hits in the first game of the day.
Gracie King followed with two. Jordan Cabana accounted for half of HU's four base knocks, while Abby Burch picked up her second win of the season.
In the series finale, it was much of the same trouble for SAU. The Muleriders left a pair of runners on base in each of the first, third and fifth innings and left the bags fully loaded in the seventh. Much like the day's first game, SAU scratched a run in the last frame, but was unable to push across any more runs.
Sydney Ward suffered her second loss of the season as Harding recorded nine hits and walked four times with just one earned run tagged against Ward.
Morgan McAlexander tossed the final two frames allowing two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Ariana Rolle delivered three hits and SAU got two each from the bats of
Kamryn Moctezuma and
Haley Nillen. Nillen recorded an RBI as did Huey who launched a home run in the second inning to tie the game at a run apiece.
