#20/16 Muleriders roll (RV) Choctaws in midweek matchup

Southern Arkansas wins 12th behind June’s quality start, another offensive outbreak

CLINTON, Miss. – Junior Nate June fired six strong innings, junior Carter Claerhout delivered six RBI and nationally-ranked Southern Arkansas cruised to a 14-1, run-rule shortened victory over (RV) Mississippi College in midweek action from Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium. The win gives the Muleriders a dozen this season, is the fourth-straight and eighth in the past ten games. SAU improves its overall series record against the Choctaws to 11-3. The two squads are set to meet in Magnolia on April 16.

Southern Arkansas (12-3) wasted no time finding the scoreboard as the Muleriders hung up a five spot in the top of the first inning as two-run doubles by Chris Lyles and Claerhout highlighted the action. Mikey McGinnis resumed the run-scoring effort for SAU in the third with an RBI double, Claerhout left the yard for the second time this season to plate three more in that frame and McGinnis followed with a big fly in the fourth as the Muleriders reached ten runs for the fourth-straight contest.

June (W, 2-0) needed just a couple of runs from his offense on Tuesday as the first-year Mulerider allowed just two MC hits, both singles, and stranded two Choctaws, while recording three strikeouts through the game's first four innings. June struck out the leadoff man in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and used a 6-3 double play to expedite the second. It was in the fifth that MC managed its lone run as a two-out double would score on the ensuing base hit for the only blemish in the Texan's first start as a Mulerider.

SAU added three more runs in the sixth on a Richardson RBI, a wild pitch and a Claerhout hit-by-pitch, June worked an uber quick bottom half and Lyles plated the final run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

In his first career appearance as a Mulerider, sophomore Logan White was efficient. He faced the minimum in the seventh picking up the first two strikeouts in his young career.

Lineup spots two through six and eight all registered two-hit days. Claerhout and McGinnis each doubled and homered. McGinnis was one of five players to cross home twice or more and did so three times. Lyles followed Claerhout in RBI with three.

The 14 hits for SAU mark the tenth game this season that the Muleriders finished north of ten and Tuesday's run support marks the sixth time in 15 games that SAU has pushed across no fewer than 14 runs.

Attention turns to a much anticipated weekend in Searcy as the Muleriders and Bisons meet for a three-game Great American Conference series on Friday and Saturday. Both Southern Arkansas and Harding are tied atop the league standings at 6-0. Live coverage links are available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
