MAGNOLIA, Ark. - In a thrilling and tightly contested match, the SAU men's tennis team emerged victorious with a narrow 4-3 win over Texas Permian Basin to cap a competitive weekend, which included losses to Midwestern State and Mississippi College, on a high note. The Muleriders return to play on Friday, February 23 on the road to Tyler against University of Texas at Tyler. Results of the match will be made available at

SAU secured the doubles point in their match against Texas Permian Basin. The duo of
Matthew Tennant and
Ole Valkyser at line one displayed excellent skill, clinching a hard-fought victory with a score of 6-4. Similarly,
Tim Fischer and
Pierre Copin at line three battled through tough points to secure a crucial win with a score of 7-5.
In singles action, the Muleriders continued their momentum with stellar performances across the board. At line two, Valkyser showcased his resilience and skill, securing a hard-fought victory with scores of 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-0.
Mathys Pinoit, at line three, demonstrated determination and composure, overcoming adversity to win with scores of 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4.
Frode Neumann displayed incredible resilience at line four, coming back from match point down to claim a thrilling victory with scores of 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Finally, Tennant delivered a decisive performance at line five, clinching the game for SAU with scores of 6-3, 6-2. These impressive wins underscore the team's depth and resolve, securing a well-deserved victory following two tough losses.
In a hard-fought battle, SAU fell 5-2 to Midwestern State in the weekend's opener.
In doubles play, Valkyser and Tennant lost at line one, 6-3. Copin and Fischer faced a similar fate at line two, also losing 6-3. Pinoit and Pasqual couldn't turn the tide, losing at line three with a score of 6-3.
Despite the setbacks in doubles, the Muleriders won twice in singles play. Fischer displayed tenacity and finesse at line one, battling through a tough match to secure victory with a thrilling score of 7-6 (7), 6-3.
Meanwhile, Pinoit demonstrated remarkable composure and precision at line three, triumphing with a commanding score of 7-6 (2), 6-2.
SAU dropped its Saturday afternoon match to #24 Mississippi College 4-1.
