Muleriders fall to #6/4 Harding

Southern Arkansas moves to 7-11 in conference play as they end their four-game home stretch

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – No. 6/4 Harding rolled into Columbia County with the reigning Great American Conference Player of the Year Sage Hawley and escaped the rowdy W.T. Watson Center with an 80-67 victory due to a strong third period by the Bisons.
The group from Searcy, Arkansas rattled off a strong first period of play as the Bisons outscored the Muleriders 19-9 in the inaugural quarter.
A late second period surge for Southern Arkansas made this matchup much closer than what anyone could have predicted as the Muleriders scored 22 points to the nationally top-ten team's 18 in the second quarter. Going into the intermission, thanks to their statement made in period two, SAU was down just 37-31 to the GAC-leading Bisons.
Coming out of the break, Harding regrouped themselves as within the first five minutes of period three, they created a 16-point lead with the score sitting at 57-41. For every shot made by the Muleriders, the Bisons found themselves making three of their own, layups or three-pointers. From that point, HU's lead gained up to 18 heading into the final quarter of play as the score had moved to 63-45.
Attempting to create a closer game as they had done before, Southern Arkansas was unable to close the gap between them and their foes. Harding expanded the lead to as much as 20-points (76-56; 2:24 left). The Muleriders never gave up near the end of the contest as they recorded run of 11-4 to close ballgame out.

TOP PERFORMERS

Zykeria Anderson accounted for a season-high 17 points as she made six of her nine total attempts from the floor (67%) as well as leading Southern Arkansas from the charity stripe and making five of her six tries from the line. Leading the Muleriders in rebounds for the evening was Tremie as she recorded eight boards from the field (2 OREB | 6 DREB). Four other Muleriders accounted for at least four of their own.
