Mulerider Women win big over Dallas Baptist, #23 Angelo State

Southern Arkansas knocks off pair of Lone Star Conference foes to start ’24 2-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas Women's Tennis jumped out to a solid start to the 2023 campaign securing victories over Dallas Baptist on Friday in Arkadelphia, before taking down #23 Angelo State on Saturday in Shreveport.
 
On Friday, SAU secured victories in a pair of doubles matches against DBU. Annika Berrendoorf and Greta Wallin triumphed at line one with a 6-3 win, while Josie Holderbach and Amelie Gindl secured another win at line three with the same score of 6-3, to secure the doubles point.
 
Heading into the singles matches, SAU maintained their momentum from the doubles with impressive victories. Berrendoorf claimed a hard-fought win at line two, battling back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Holderbach continued the winning streak at line three, dominating with a solid 6-2, 6-1 victory. Lochter secured a thrilling win at line five, prevailing 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 in a closely contested match. Finally, Lintz clinched the game for SAU with a commanding 6-4, 6-1 win, sealing a remarkable overall victory in SAU's first D2 action of the spring season.
 
On Saturday, SAU saw success and challenges. Holderbach and Gindl secured a victory for SAU at line three doubles with a score of 6-4. However, Wallin and Berrendoorf narrowly lost a tight match at line one, with a score of 6-7 (4). Similarly, Lochter and Lintz faced tough opposition at line two, ultimately losing with a score of 3-6 as the ranked Rambelles secured the doubles point.
 
Despite the setback in doubles, the Muleriders rebounded with exceptional performances in singles action. Holderbach continued her dominance at line three with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory. Gindl displayed resilience at line four, securing a hard-fought win with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. Lochter added to the triumph at line five with a solid 6-4, 7-5 victory. The highlight of the day came from Berrendoorf, who battled fiercely for over three and a half hours, ultimately clinching the win for the Muleriders with a score of 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5.
