MAGNOLIA, Ark – Following the much-needed victory against East Central Thursday night, Southern Arkansas rattles off another victory during the home-stretch as the Muleriders left Southeastern Oklahoma State in the dust with a final 76-61 win inside the W.T. Watson Center on Saturday.
With the victory, SAU advanced to a .500 record at 11-11 overall and moves up to 6-10 in league play. The Muleriders' 76 points were the most chalked up since Southern Arkansas' battle against East Central in January.
TOP PERFORMERS
Three Muleriders recorded double-digit afternoons as
Addy Tremie led Southern Arkansas in scoring with 20 points for her third 20+-point contest of 2023-24. Tremie was accompanied by
Zykeria Anderson with 12 points and
Diamond Morris with 10. Tremie, a native of Sulphur, Louisiana, earned her points after shooting 8-19 (.421) from the field and 4-9 from three (.444). Anderson and Morris each made four of their eight attempts on the floor with Zykeria making three of her four free throw attempts and Diamond knocking down one of her two. The Sheridan, Arkansas native was also the team-leader in boards for the afternoon as she recorded six rebounds all on the defensive side of the ball. Including Morris, five Muleriders were responsible for four rebounds.
Southern Arkansas shot for 45.6% from the floor after making 31 of their 68 shots; 30.4% from beyond the arc as they dropped in seven of their 23 buckets; 63.6% at the charity stripe as they made seven of the eleven attempts given. SAU accounted for 42 points in the paint and 24 points off of the Savage Storm' 24 turnovers.
THE GAME
The Muleriders entered the game with a bit of momentum leftover from the triumph on Thursday as they accounted for a sold first period of play with an early 15-8 lead heading into the second quarter. Southeastern was still just down by seven though, and in the second they turned their eight-point gain into a 26-point leap to overcome Southern Arkansas' 17-point effort in the period. Going into halftime, the lead changed over to the Storm at 34-32. Each team felt each other out to begin the second half of play with SEOSU extending its condensed-lead to three points at 39-36. With a Tremie jump shot and a couple free throws by
Tequaza Chambers, Southern Arkansas had begun to roll. The Muleriders tacked on 21 points to their total in the third and held the Savage Storm to just 11 and ended the period with a 13-6 run following Tremie jumper. Southern Arkansas showed how to play all four quarters by extending their lead to as much as 23 points in the fourth period around the six-minute mark. From then on, SAU left off the gas with their second victory in a row in their grasp and would claim their eleventh dub of the campaign.
