KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southern Arkansas University gave a strong effort but ultimately fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 73-68, in a hard-fought contest at the Central Region Tip-Off in Kansas City, Missouri. Despite the loss, the Muleriders showed significant improvement, particularly in their three-point shooting, and displayed resilience throughout the game.
Senior
Christian Caldwell was a standout player for Southern Arkansas, finishing with 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Caldwell's all-around performance was vital in keeping the Muleriders in the game
Sophomore
Anthony Igiede also contributed 12 points, including 2-of-5 shooting from three-point range. His timely outside shooting helped keep Southern Arkansas within reach of Sioux Falls.
Overall, the Muleriders made notable strides in their three-point shooting, improving from a tough 2-of-23 in their previous game to 11-of-31 in this matchup. This increase in efficiency from beyond the arc kept the Muleriders competitive and highlighted their ability to adjust offensively.
One of the biggest challenges for the Muleriders in this game was rebounding. Southern Arkansas was out-rebounded 36-48 by Sioux Falls. Despite Caldwell's strong performance on the boards, the Muleriders struggled to contain the Cougars on the defensive side of the ball and at the board.
The Muleriders will look to build on their positive takeaways, particularly their improved shooting and the leadership of their upperclassmen, as they prepare to open up the home court on Friday at 6:00 PM versus Ecclesia College.
