MAGNOLIA, Ark. – ITA Central Region Singles Champion Amelie Gindl is set to compete in the prestigious ITA Cup hosted by Berry College in Rome, Georgia. For the eighth consecutive year, Rome Tennis Center will serve as the host location for this annual ITA event. The tournament runs over four days, from Thursday (Oct. 10) to Sunday (Oct. 13), and will feature the top talent in the country across the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and JUCO levels.
The ITA Cup is the only recognized national singles and doubles championship event for Divison II and the draw consists of the regional champions from the eight regions, as well as eight at large-bids receivers.
Gindl played a significant role in Head Coach Greg Owen's lineup last spring and has continued to show strong effort on the match court this fall. Gindl is currently undefeated in singles play as she has collected a total of thirteen wins over the three individual tournaments the team has participated in so far this fall.
In Edmond, Oklahoma at the ITA Central Region Championships, Gindl rallied her way through the tournament and claimed the title after winning six straight singles matches, only dropping one set. She topped Nebraska Kearney's Fabiana Gamboa 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Missouri Western's Cristina Granero Boj 6-1 6-3, who both finished nationally ranked last spring as the nation's number 45 and 60 best singles players respectively.
Her impressive play has made her the first Mulerider Woman in history to claim the ITA Central Region Championship Singles title.
Gindl is set to play the first round on Thursday morning (Oct. 10) at 9:00 a.m. against the tournament's number four seed, Nikoline Gullacksen (Columbus State).
