Mulerider Football's Jones Named GAC Offensive Player of The Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league's weekly football awards on Tuesday (Sep. 5), and making offensive player of the week is Mulerider quarterback OB Jones. In his senior campaign, he earned his first player of the week honor after a four-touchdown performance to defeat the Southeastern Oklahoma Savage Storm 34-19 in the 2023 season opener (Aug. 31).

After being named GAC Offensive Player of The Week, Jones becomes the first Mulerider to earn GAC football weekly honors since his former teammate Demarcus Williams was named GAC Special Teams Player of The Week for the second time in 2021. This marks the third-time time a Southern Arkansas quarterback has claimed offensive player of the week since 2015. Jones' predecessor Hayden Mallory won the honor in October of 2019 and like Jones, Mallory earned the reward after scoring four touchdowns to defeat the Savage Storm in Magnolia. Before Mallory, Barrett Renner claimed the title with a three-touchdown showing against East Central in November of 2015.

Jones earned the honor by passing 20-27 for 126 yards and one touchdown through the air while toting the rock 19 times for 95 net yards and pounding in the rock for three touchdowns to seal the victory on August 31.

Jones continues to lead the Muleriders as they take their first visit to The Sooner State towards Ada, Oklahoma Thursday night (Sep. 7) to take on the East Central Tigers at Koi Ishto Stadium.
