HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Behind
Aurea Carlisle's top 15 finish and two more Muleriders landing inside the field's top 20, Southern Arkansas placed tied for sixth place at the 2023 Great American Conference Championship from the Hot Springs Country Club with a 968 (+104); just 14 strokes back of a fourth place finish. SAU, in its final action of the season, put together its best round of the 54-hole tournament with a final round 320 on the par-72, 5,932-yard Park Course.
Carlisle put together rounds of 74-82-80 to finish at 236 (+20). Carlisle's 74 was a team-best round for the tournament. Chow, in her final action for SAU, improved her score each round to finish five strokes back of Carlisle after putting together a 82-80-79. Hester also shot a 241 (+25) with a 79-80-82.
In her final tournament as a Mulerider, senior
Taylor Rich improved her score each round with 88-83-79; a nine stroke improvement from round one to round three.
Aubrey Marx shaved seven strokes off of her round one score to finish with a round three 82 and a 259 for the tournament.
Hester, an All-GAC Honorable Mention selection, was one of only three golfers to shoot +1 or better in par-3 scoring for the tournament. She, along with Carlisle, shot +2 in par-5 scoring to lead SAU on such holes.
The Muleriders recorded a dozen birdies with Carlisle sinking four, Hester three, two each from Chow and Marx and one from Rich. SAU combined for 127 made pars; the fourth-most in the tournament. Carlisle led the squad with 30, Hester and Chow each produced 27, Rich made 25 and Marx added 18.
