(RV) Muleriders stopped at home by Arkansas Tech

Southern Arkansas earns a game two win to salvage Easter weekend series

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - (RV) Southern Arkansas dropped two of its three Great American Conference contests to Arkansas Tech this weekend at home. The Muleriders split Saturday's doubleheader falling 8-7 in the series opener, before winning 6-0 to split the day. On Monday, SAU lost 3-1 to the Golden Suns. SAU drops to 27-12 overall and 15-8 in league play. The Muleriders are back in action on Tuesday inside the Dr. Margaret Downing Softball Complex for the final game of split three-game series with league rival Arkansas-Monticello. Live coverage links are available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.

In game two, the Muleriders received a terrific complete-game effort from starter Sydney Ward who went the full seven innings allowing only three hits and working around three walks, while striking out three to earn her 14th win of the season. Regan Dillon, Gracie King, Ariana Rolle and Jaxynn Dyson all accounted for RBI base knocks with Dyson's bringing in two. Alyssa Miller walked in a run as part of a five-run sixth inning.

For the series, King led the offense with a .571 average. She was one of five players with four or more hits. Courtney Storey, Dillon and Rolle all recorded four hits. Dyson led the team with five including two home runs. She accounted for six RBI and scored a team-leading three runs as she totaled 11 bases. Seven of SAU's 24 hits on the weekend went for extra bases as Emily Shipman recorded two of SAU's five doubles.

In the series opener, Tech answered a 2-0 deficit with a seven-run fifth inning, but the Muleriders responded with four runs in the home half of the fifth and a sacrifice fly by Miller in the sixth to tie the game at seven. A one-out homer by Tech's Mackenzie Goins in the seventh served as the difference.
