Muleriders Top Harding in First Game of Weekend Series

Junior Chris Sutton recorded 3 RBI on three hits, senior Riley Orr went 3-3

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – MSouthern Arkansas took care of the Harding Bisons in game one of their three game weekend series at Goodheart Field. The Muleriders recorded six runs on ten hits while the Bisons saw four runs on seven hits. Southern Arkansas Notes

*Chris Sutton singled in his first plate appearance to have reached base safely 11 times through 15 games in SAU's first at bat. The junior went 3-5 on the night with 3 RBI and one run.

*Two additional Muleriders recorded multiple hits in Riley Orr (3-3, 1 RBI, 1 R) and Will Richardson (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R). Brett McGee and Conner Allen accounted for the other two Mulerider hits.

*It didn't take SAU long to get on the board, scoring their first of six runs in the first inning. Sutton led things off with a single to the shortstop and advanced to second on a throwing error by the second baseman. Brett McGee immediately brought him home in SAU's next at bat, singling to right center and scoring Sutton in the process.

*Sutton accounted for SAU's second run of the contest. Riley Orr singled to the shortstop to give SAU their first base runner with two outs on the board. Sutton followed with a double to right that allowed Orr to make it all the way home.

*Chris Sutton's bat stayed hot, this time bringing home two runs in the fourth. Richardson (1b), Orr (2b) and Sutton (1b) all recorded consecutive two-out hits with Sutton's single driving both Muleriders home.

*SAU notched their fifth run of the game in the sixth inning when Richardson doubled to drive in Allen who had previously singled.

*Allen drew a walk in SAU's first AB of the eighth before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Orr knocked a singled to left field, scoring Allen to give the Muleriders a 6-4 advantage over the Bisons.

*Jeremy Adorno tossed 7.0 innings for the Muleriders where he allowed two runs on four hits. The sophomore walked three and struck out 10.

*Santos Sosa saw 1.0 relief innings where he allowed two runs on three hits.

*Isiah Haynes retired all three batters he faced and recorded two strikeouts in his 1.0 inning appearance.

Harding Notes

*HU found their first run in the fourth when Michael Dewald grounded out, bringing home Logan Lacey, who has doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, in the process.

*Coulton Doyle homered in HU's first at bat of the sixth to cut the SAU lead to just two runs.

*Doyle started the eighth inning off with a single to second and Sebastian Martinez followed with a double to place both HU base runners in scoring position. Lacey flied out to right, scoring Doyle before Martinez scored on a throwing error by McGinnis.
