Muleriders Stun Statesmen in Midweek Contest

Southern Arkansas outscores Delta State 10-1 at Goodheart Field

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Baseball team dismissed the Delta State Statesmen 10-1 this afternoon inside Walker Stadium. The Muleriders saw six more hits than the Statesmen and used five fewer arms. SAU will continue conference action this weekend in Magnolia with three against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. Southern Arkansas Notes

*Brandon Nicoll went 3-5 with two RBI this afternoon to lead the Muleriders ten hit effort. Will Richardson both went 2-4 with an RBI each to represent the additional Muleriders with multiple hits in the contest.

*Micah Burke tossed a dominant 7.0 innings for the Muleriders. The Navarro College transfer made his longest appearance of the season where he allowed just a single run on three hits. Landon McAllister followed with a hitless and scoreless eighth inning outing. Kaleb Wiznoski wrapped things up on the mound with a ninth inning that saw zero runs on one hit.

*Southern Arkansas jumped out to an early lead this beautiful Tuesday afternoon at Goodheart Field. Riley Orr represented the first run of the afternoon for either team after drawing a walk in SAU's first at bat of the afternoon. The senior stole second before runners found themselves on the corners on a Brandon Nicoll single. Conner Allen plated the run with a sacrifice fly to right center.

*The Muleriders added another four runs to their advantage in the second inning. Mikey McGinnis earned a bag on a hit by pitch before advancing to second on a Jackson Duke walk. A double off the bat of Chris Sutton plated the first run of the inning. Orr singled through the right side to load the bases and a groundout by McGee scored run number two. Nicoll plated the final two run son a single to right center that allowed the Muleriders to find a five-run advantage over the Statesmen.

*SAU plated another four runs in the third. Richardson began the inning with a single to left center and was joined on base by Duke who drew a walk. Zach Rennard singled to center field to plate the first run in Richardson. Riley Orr drew a walk to load the bases for a bases clearing two-out double off the bat of McGee.

*Southern Arkansas scored a solo run in the eighth to find themselves in double digits. Brett McGee drew a walk to start the inning and stole second to put himself in scoring position for a Richardson RBI single to left field.

Delta State Notes

 *Cade Whitley started off on the mound for the Statesmen this afternoon. Whitley let up five runs on four hits in his 1.2 innings of work. Steven Lacy followed with 1.0 inning of his own that saw four runs on three hits. Duke Jordan tossed 1.1 scoreless innings that didn't see a single hit. Andrew Morlen took care of a single inning that held the Muleriders scoreless once again on two hits. Jesse Homan and Cade Hodges followed with two more hitless and scoreless innings. Caleb Smitch came in to walk a singular batter before Trace McNabb took over. McNabb tossed a scoreless inning that saw just one hit.

*Delta State got on the board in the top of the seventh on a two-out solo homerun from Eric Newson.
