Multiple Mulerider spring sports programs in action this weekend

March rolls on with five SAU athletic teams competing

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Another spring weekend is here and for Mulerider Athletics that means multiple programs are in action. A full schedule of the weekend's action along with available live coverage links can be found at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.

#14 Southern Arkansas Softball hosts Henderson State in a three-game Great American Conference series, while #9/9 Mulerider Baseball heads to Arkadelphia for three league games with the Reddies. Mulerider Men's Tennis takes a swing at Division I Southern Methodist on Friday, while the SAU Women play host to Northeastern State on Saturday. The Southern Arkansas Men's Basketball team opens up NCAA postseason play against three-time defending national champion Northwest Missouri in the regional quarterfinal round on Saturday at 6pm More on that matchup will be available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.

Mulerider Men's Tennis at Southern Methodist
Friday, 11 am


*The Muleriders are looking to get back on track after dropping their past two matches to fall to 2-4 on the season.
*Ole Valkyser and Mathieu Wierniezky have each claimed four singles wins this season. Sander Jans has earned a pair at line one.
*Jans along with Ben Schneider have a team-leading three doubles wins, while Matthew Tennant and Adrian Gheorge follow with a pair.
*SMU enters at 7-7 overall, but has lost four of its past five matches. Three of those losses came against ITA DI Top 40 ranked teams. The lone win in that span was over #54 Old Dominion.
*SAU meets a Division I opponent for the first time since knocking off Texas-Arlington 4-3 last February.
*Louis Cloud leads the Mustangs in singles wins this season with 15. SMU is 80-76 overall in singles play.
*The Mustangs have won 38 doubles matches this season.

Mulerider Softball vs. Henderson State

*The Muleriders enter into the first home GAC series of the season at #14 in the country.
*SAU has lost its past five and sits at 15-7 overall with a 3-3 mark in league play.
*HSU enters at 11-11 overall and is also even in GAC play at 3-3. The Reddies have played just twice in true road games this season.
*It will be matchups No. 96, 97 and 98 between the two programs since SAU's first season of 1999. Since the 2012 season, the GAC's first, SAU leads the series 28-11 and has won 20 of the past 22 meetings. Last season the Reddies won for the first time since April of 2017.
*Alyssa Miller leads SAU in average at .420. Her 29 hits are the most and lead two other Muleriders with 20+ base hits.
*Gracie King has 22 hits and a team-leading five home runs and 22 RBI.
*Ariana Rolle's 17 runs scored are the most for SAU.
*The Muleriders are hitting .300 as a team with 123 runs scored and 65 extra base hits.
*Sydney Ward carries a 2.55 ERA and an 8-4 record with six complete games in 68.2 innings pitched.
*SAU owns a 3.24 ERA in 149.0 innings with 120 strikeouts to 50 walks. Opponents are hitting .272.

Mulerider Baseball at Henderson State
Friday, 6 pm | Saturday, 1 pm (DH)

*The Muleriders enter a big weekend series in Arkadelphia with some momentum after trouncing Arkansas-Monticello 17-4 in a midweek clash.
*SAU is 13-5 overall with a 7-2 mark in GAC play.
*The Muleriders are ranked No. 9 nationally in both the NCBWA DII Top 25 and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30.
*The Reddies are 11-8 overall with a 5-4 mark in league action.
*The two squads met seven times last season which included three postseason matchups. Three of the meetings were decided by a single run.
*SAU holds a 38-16 record against the Reddies since 2012. HSU is 10-15 against the Muleriders at home.
*Five Muleriders are hitting north of .300. Four have crossed home 20+ times and five have delivered 17+ RBI.
*Brandon Nicoll leads SAU with 24 hits, seven doubles, 26 RBI and a .662 slugging percentage.
*Jeremy Adorno and Mikel Howell both own ERAs below 2.80. Adorno is 3-0 and Howell is 4-1. Both have tossed 29.0 innings this season and have combined for 74 strikeouts.
*SAU is hitting .300 as a team with 60 extra base hits and holds a staff ERA of 4.34 with 152 strikeouts.
*Seven Reddies are hitting north of .300. HSU has recorded 71 extra base hits behind a .300 team average.
*Six players have scored 10+ runs and eight have registered double figures in the hit column led by Greyson Stevens' 29.
*Ryan Galvan leads HSU in ERA at 2.54 in 28.1 innings. Reese Weaks leads Reddie starters with 22 strikeouts and a staff-low opponent average of .213.

Mulerider Women's Tennis vs. #33 Northeastern State
Saturday, 3 pm

*Southern Arkansas has lost five straight matches and are 2-7 on the season. SAU will look for its first home win in its fourth such effort on Saturday.
*The Muleriders are 2-1 all-time against the RiverHawks.
*NSU carries a 4-1 record into the weekend following a 4-3 win over (RV) Drury.
*Annika Berrendorf is 4-1 against Division II opponents in singles action this spring.
*Greta Wallin and Lena Milosevic have both won three times over DII singles opponents.
*NSU's Emilia Cosatto is 15-2 this season and an unbeaten 5-0 at line 1.
