Box Score 2 RUSTON, La. - Southern Arkansas Women's Tennis faced a quick turnaround on Sunday following a season-opening win over Delta State on Saturday. It was a tall task against Division I Louisiana Tech which posted an 18-9 record last spring and entered the two-match day at 3-1. SAU dropped both matches by scores of 4-0 and 7-0.
Â
In Sunday's opener, La Tech claimed the doubles point with wins at the top two lines before winning singles lines three, six and four to win 4-0.
Â
Sarah Roy was in a battle at the top of the lineup with La Tech's Leonie Schuknecht before the matchup was left unfinished in favor of the host at 6-5. The same could be said of
Lena Milosevic who was edged in the opening set at line two. Milosevic was topped 7-6 (4) by Olga Bienzobas.
Greta Wallin was a point away from claiming a set win over Ilana Tetruashvili as the Muleriders' line five player led 6-4 before the match was called in favor of the 'Dawgs.
Â
In the second match, the squads played through with Tech winning all seven points, but not before being challenged by the Muleriders. Roy and Serpukhova won at doubles No. 3 to highlight the day. The pair beat La Tech's Tetruashvili and Valentina Vazquez 7-6 (4).
Â
Wallin pushed Ana Rodrigues in the first set at line five singles. Rodrigues won 7-5.
Annika Berrendorf nearly won set one at line three against Tiffani Nash who edged the first-year Mulerider 7-6 (4).
Â
The Muleriders (1-2) return to action on Friday, February 10 against Henderson State in Arkadelphia. The matchup will be a non-conference affair as the two teams won't meet in GAC action until April 11 in Magnolia. SAU is 4-2 against the Reddies since the former's return year to NCAA action in 2018-19. Results will be made available at
